Create a Celebration Station
Lauren Williamson, a kindergarten teacher in Mississippi, created a celebration station in her classroom. She explains, "In my classroom, we have a celebration station. There you will find a bell, a bucket of paper, and an empty bucket. When students pass an i-Ready lesson they are permitted to get up, ring the bell, and write their name on a slip of paper. Students drop the paper in the drawing bucket. Each Friday I choose a lucky winner who receives a prize. In addition to entering the raffle, students get praise from their peers. When the bell 'dings' the class shouts, 'Whoop whoop!' This is a quick way for students to receive peer praise to keep them going. This motivates my students to do their best while working on their pathways. Also, it allows my kindergarteners to get up and get the wiggles out before continuing on their pathway."
