Create a Dedicated Time Block to Support Learning and Celebrate Growth

Nissitissit Middle School in Massachusetts introduced intervention blocks or “Patriot Time” for students in all grades. “At the start of the year, students completed the i-Ready Diagnostic in both Reading and Math," said a Nissitissit educator. "Each week, students attend Patriot Time during which they receive targeted intervention in their area of need. In January, students took the midyear Diagnostic in both Math and Reading. Their scores were fantastic! Students are making tremendous growth. We are proud of them for all their hard work. This week, teachers are conferencing with students to discuss their progress and celebrate growth. Students will also receive a card that illustrates their growth. Be sure to check in with your child and hang their card on the refrigerator!” What a great way to structure time for instruction and celebration of growth!
