Create a “Wildly Important Goal” for Schoolwide Motivation

At Lake Country Elementary School in Florida, educators created a “Wildly Important Goal” for 100% of students to achieve a year’s worth of growth in i-Ready. They display progress by grade on a scoreboard displayed where all students can see. “Lessons passed contribute to a student making growth, so for our scoreboard, we are tracking i-Ready lessons passed for each subject in bar graph format, displayed on a bulletin board for all to see. This is easy and clear for students to read and understand. At the conclusion of each month, our STEM and Reading coaches pull the total lessons passed in math and reading for the school year so far. The lessons passed are pulled by class and then added together to determine the total lessons passed for the grade level. Student leaders then update the bar graphs to reflect the progress each month (each divided section within the bar graph represents 100 lessons passed).”
*Editorial Note from Curriculum Associates Learning Specialists: Tracking and celebrating students’ progress on their i-Ready lessons can be very motivating for students.
