Create an i-Ready Celebration Board
Deirdre Keoski, an eighth grade English Language Arts teacher in California, created an i‑Ready Celebration Board. She explains, "I celebrate growth at the end of the second and third Diagnostic. I put each student's name on a star if they meet the growth goal. I draw a star on the star if they exceed one year average growth. I acknowledge the student who had the most growth in each class and the one student who had the most growth of all my classes. I added a top ten feature to encourage my high readers to keep growing. These are little trophy cutouts with the Lexile score on them. These are the only Lexile scores used on the board. I find that a little competition motivates my more accomplished readers. We applaud and cheer and make a lot of noise to celebrate growth. It is the one aspect where I believe the students have agency."
