Create High Five Hand Sticky for End of Year Goals

Allison Webb, a teacher in Mississippi, created High Five Hand Stickies for students' end of year goals. She explains, "For each Diagnostic, students graph their progress and it is displayed in the hall with their personal classroom identification number. Before the final Diagnostic, I pass out a sticky note that is the shape of a hand. Each finger (starting with the thumb from the left to the right) corresponds with their information and scores: Thumb: student initials; Index Finger: first diagnostic results; Middle finger: second Diagnostic results; Ring finger: goal for upcoming final Diagnostic; and Pinky: final Diagnostic score. Students highlight the ring finger to easily identify their goal (data chats include progress and goals). I write an encouraging note on the palm and the students do as well. They keep the hand on their desk for motivation. We recently discovered the 'We Gon' Pass that i-Ready' rap, and now it is a part of our ramp up! Once the final Diagnostic has been taken, I call the students to my desk and show them their results. They write the final score and we discuss the progress. Finally, we go to our data graph, fill it in, and celebrate!"
