Facilitate Students Learning from Each Other in a Classwide Data Chat

Kelly Richars, a kindergarten educator in Florida, hosts a whole class data chat every Friday. She begins by pulling up her class Personalized Instruction data on the screen and goes student by student to see how many lessons they passed. When a student passes lessons in multiples of 10, Richars moves their bee to the next hive. She engages students by asking what they did to pass lessons. Students would respond with things like they pay attention during the lesson, listen to headphones, etc. Students celebrate and clap for each other and turn and talk about the data. Data chats are fantastic ways to celebrate success while enabling students to learn from their peers!
