Hold a Schoolwide i-Ready Tournament to Encourage High Percent of Lessons Passed
Andy Tullis, an educator in Utah, took inspiration from college basketball's March Madness and created a school-wide i-Ready tournament. Mr. Tullis says, "All of our K–5 classes participate in tournaments for both math and reading. Each class is seeded or ranked by their Lessons Passed Average (year to date) and paired with another class to compete against. Each week, or round, a class competes against another class. At the end of each round, the class with the highest Lessons Passed Average (for the week only) earns the win. It was great to see the students shift their mindset towards accuracy and understanding rather than passive engagement. They began to ask more questions, clarify misunderstandings, and take more pride in their work. The teachers also became quite motivated by the friendly competition, too."
