Host Schoolwide i-Ready Competitions

Kaleigh Borrink creates i-Ready competitions for her students related to the seasons, holidays, and more! “Our kids use i-Ready instruction four days a week. In order to keep it from becoming stale, I host competitions between my classes. For instance, in the weeks leading up to Halloween, I hung paper pumpkins outside the computer lab, and for every ten lessons the class completed, they’d earn a “carving” for their pumpkin. The class who finished their Jack-O-Lantern first won cupcakes. I’ve also had the kids participate in their model. For instance, last year before Chinese New Year, we hung up dragons and every time they completed a lesson they got a sticker (aka, a “scale”) to put on their class dragon. The most decorated dragon got a prize.” Kaleigh says she’s seen a major benefit since creating these little competitions for her students. “I also really like to see the kids support each other when the competition gets heated. When it comes down to the last few days of a competition, and two classes are neck-and-neck, they get really competitive and value every lesson that their classmates complete.”
