Plan a Virtual Data Night with Students and Families

Assistant Principal at Davis-Emerson Middle School Lillie Lewis shared a creative way to engage students and families with student data in a virtual setting. Lewis explained that during the virtual family night, they reviewed i-Ready Diagnostic reports for reading and mathematics in depth. This followed student data chat sessions earlier in the day so that when students went home for the day, they shared their reports with their families in time to attend the virtual family data event, which served as the culminating event to what occurred earlier in the day. "The session gave parents an opportunity to see where their child scored and grade-level placement," said Lewis. "We also provided parents with suggestions for helping students, and they now know that their child can work on their personalized learning path at home as well as at school.” This is an effective way to explain student data in a way that is helpful to both students and their families and accommodate scenarios in which an in-person family event may not be possible. Consider planning a family data night virtually or in person.
