Plan for Effective Remote Proctoring with Timed Reminders during Assessments

Chelsea Thurlow, i-Ready team member, learned a simple remote proctoring strategy from a district that administered the i-Ready Diagnostic remotely in the spring. Teachers referred to suggested reminders and prompts to say to students at various time-stamped intervals throughout the proctoring block, which helped students stay on task and aware of their progress through the Diagnostic. Setting an alarm for yourself is a great way to make sure you remember each time-stamped prompt. If at any point individual students are not responding to the prompts, contacting a parent or guardian may be needed to ensure the student is doing their best work. Here is an example of timed-stamped reminders in a proctoring block:
Start: Remember to do your best, and take your time to answer each question carefully!
7 minutes: I love how you are all focusing on your work!
17 minutes: I am so impressed that everyone is using scratch paper to solve problems before answering.
30 minutes: Keep up the great work, you are all doing an amazing job of showing what you know!
40 minutes: We have about five minutes left before we stop the assessment for today. Finish up the problem you are working on.
End: Excellent work, everyone! We are done for today.
