Use a Script when Administering the Diagnostic

Educator Pam Malafronte created a “script” of what to say to students when administering the i-Ready Diagnostic. By giving students very specific instructions, teachers can encourage students to take the Diagnostic seriously, and ensure they are getting valid and reliable results. Here’s the script that Ms. Malafronte uses, but feel free to create your own! *
*Note the script below is for students who will also be using i-Ready Instruction. Please feel free to alter this script if your students will not be using Instruction immediately after the Diagnostic.
1) “Students, you all have been logged in to begin your i-Ready Diagnostic.”
2.) “You are now on the start page—only when I tell you to press START will you begin the test.”
3.) “During the test, you need to look only at your computer screen. When you finish the test, you can begin i-Ready Instruction.”
4.) “Remember to read all questions twice, then select your answer—it is important to take your time.”
5.) “When you finish your Diagnostic, you will begin i-Ready Instruction on the computer—when you finish the test, Instruction will begin right away. You will work on the computer and remain quiet until every student in the room has finished their test.”
6.) “Students, press START and begin the test.”
